All healthcare providers licensed to prescribe medications in Minnesota may prescribe naloxone, which can be filled at most pharmacies. And in some cases, your insurance may cover the cost of dispensing naloxone.
If you don’t have a prescription from your health care provider, your local pharmacist may be able to write one for you if they have registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy’s Opiate Antagonist Protocol.
Before you go, remember to call your local pharmacy to confirm that they carry naloxone.
Naloxone is often available free of charge from organizations such as community-run Syringe Service Programs (SSPs) or Naloxone Access Points (NAPs), a program run by the Steve Rummler Hope Network. Many of these organizations also provide other harm reduction services and training to administer naloxone.
